Thechashaku(茶 杓), a spoon made from bamboo, has long been used to dose the perfect amount of matcha powder, but the simple designation 'spoon' does little justice to this handy tool. Thechashakuis cut by hand from high quality bamboo, after which it is bent into its characteristic shape by steam and endless patience.

Although the simple appearance suggests otherwise, the shape of the spoon has been carefully considered. The narrow end makes spooning the right amount of matcha from a small package very easy, something that would not be the case with a normal spoon. Moreover, because the spoon consists entirely of bamboo, the taste of the matcha cannot be affected.

This is how you use the bamboo spoon / chashaku

Spoon one and a half to two bamboo spoons of matcha powder into a bowl, depending on how thick or thin you want to drink the matcha. Never let the bamboo spoon get wet, wipe it with a dry cloth.
